Judy expressed a bit of frustration re: the amount of effort and time taken in recruiting esp. family practice clinicians and asked for feedback concerning the format of the invitations sent out from ALA. Members thought the “post card” was fine – copy could be more appealing.
4. LPN Training at Mayo: Jackie Heying announced that 450 LPN’s will hear a presentation from Jackie and Ashok on Oct. 13. They have put in a “plug” for SERAC.
5. STEPS Activities: JoAnne updated members on several STEPS projects. Note that the PSA commercial and OCPHS smoking PSA’s featured in movie theaters this summer are now available for viewing on www.mnasthma.org – SE Region.
6. AANMA’s campaign regarding respiratory medications. Christy Olson presented the alarming trend she is hearing for patients around the county, including MN and this region regarding the issue of pharmacy compounding of substandard medications. Internet available nebulizer medications targeted especially at the older population are especially an issue.
Creating an awareness of the problem through posters of the FDA-licensed meds and the imposters, not produced in an FDA-approved facility was one suggestion from members. Physicians need to be alert to this issue as well. Members received a copy of the Allergy & Asthma today magazine with the article “Are There Fakes and Frauds in Your Nebulizer?” Louise provided additional background and comments re: this problem, as well.
AANMA is also putting together a Teen Newsletter and has asked for assistance with review of the copy and layout/design. We may have the opportunity to provide feedback to the editors depending on the deadline. Christy has already given feedback regarding the copy. Louise and Tim offered to assist as well.
7. MAC Strategic Plan – Denise has served on the MAC Strategic Plan Committee
formed in May redo the plan. We have the opportunity to make any additional suggestions. It will be reviewed and voted upon at the MAC Steering Committee Meeting on Sept. 20.
8. HealthHouse Spanish language information sheets are now available, as well as
excellent school-based informational sheets compiled & reprinted in the STEPS newsletter. Judy sent e-mail notices with copies of both to all coalition members prior to the meeting.
Respectfully submitted,
Judy Wothke, SERAC Coordinator
